THE LADY OF
SHALOTT-PATIENCE/ CARING
In order to
compare these two values with the poem “the lady of shallot” is important to understand
the meaning of both. Patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay,
problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. And caring is feeling
or showing concern for or kindness to others. The relation between these values
and the poem is big but all related to the lady of shallot and not to other
characters. This is because she is the one who suffer in the story and the one
who have to fight to get what she wanted. First of all, the author writes this
based on love and how powerful it is. The lady of shallot is a patient woman
who is under a curse that forces her to weave all the time and doesn’t let her
do anything so she was trap at the castle of Camelot and she couldn’t do anything
she wanted. In this story the value of patience is show because she is dying,
because she wasn’t able to look through the window and the only thing she could
do was view Camelot through the mirror but not directly because the curse will
be activated only if she pauses from her weaving to look at Camelot. this girl
shows patience because on the poem she describes the amazing things people do outside
and how beautiful it was even if she was under this terrific curse. The lady of
shalott was in love with sr. Lancelot who was the guide for the knights, but he
didn’t love her and didn’t appreciate her beauty until her dead, this shows how
patient the lady was. This lady begs for his love and he didn’t wanted her, so
this force her to break the curse, get out of the castle and lose patience, and
go in search of her love, and here is where we can infer how caring she was because
she didn’t give up and kept fighting. This wasn’t a good idea because the curse
paused and this would take her to death. Not to lose patience she would sing
songs and do other things to distract herself. After getting out of the castle
she went to a boat and started dying but this didn’t stop her fighting, she was
on the correct direction because she wanted to be with sr. Lancelot and she was
concern about him. At the end the boat ended at the prow where knight and
burghers were and this is the moment were the value of caring is shown by the
character sr. Lancelot because he was also there and when he saw he was concern
and asked himself who was that and what was she doing her, but at that moment
he saw her real beauty and said that she had a lovely face. All over the story we may think that these
values are not found but the character traits help to find them. We see both
values on the lady of shallot and only the value of caring in sr. Lancelot.
