Citizenship and commitment applied to the story Christmas storms and sunshine.
Citizenship is the position or status of being a citizen of a particular country, commintment is a promise to do or give something ,a promise to be loyal to something or someone. The story christmas storms and sunshine is based on the constant fight between two families and how at the end they set asside their differences and have a good relation. People can relate the story with these values because the problem is developed by the diferences between both families and how they are not able to accept each other the way they are. The value citizenship is reflect on the way that the husbads who were the compositors of opposite political newspapers are the ones who fight the less even if they have diferent preferences and and how the wifes that are just humans dont have a good relationship. Commitment is shown in how both wifes are so nice to their husbands and they are always there when they need them and also related to commitment miss hodgson have a responsability and is to take care of her baby and miss jenkins have the responsability to take care of her cat. One of the situations that shows commitment is when miss hodgson kicked the cat because he destroyed mr hodgson dinner but after this she realised that she shoudnt have done this because he was just a poor animal. In a moment of the story the hodgsons baby get sick of a respiratory desease and to save him miss hodgson needed hot water so she goes to the jenkins house to ask for some because they lived in the same building and miss jenkins refused because the water was for mr.jenkins dinner, but after this, the value of citizenship is shown because as a neighbor miss jenkins understood that her husband food wasnt more important then the babys live so she applied the value and decided to go and help the hodgsons and finally save the babys live. At the end the jenkins christmas dinner was destryed by their cat and the hodgson family as a gift or an act of great for saving their babys life they took some homemade sausages to the jenkins and they set asside their differences so this have a relation with citizenship and also commitment. As an adition, the author who is elizabeth gaskell advice as a person who practice both values that if people have any problems or troubles with other people or with their own lifes they should fix them before christmas because is the time to be fine and share with people. Her intention is also to show how hate can take us to do things we actually dont want to or dont mean to ,and how can take us to lose such important values, and that as humans we should just accept each other the way we are no matter our preferences, religion, politicas, economical asepcts, we are all the same but we think different. These values are lost in specific situations of the story ,for example, the constant quarrel of the wifes for insignificant things, when miss hodgson kicked the cat, when miss jenkins didnt wanted to give warm water to save the baby , and also are lost because in the story we can see envy because both families were jelous about what they have and what they didnt , the hodgsons were able to have a baby but the jenkins couldnt so they werent gratefull for the things they have, but where always looking at the things others have -and didnt appreciate what they could have.
